COURSE OVERVIEW:
The Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association is pleased to offer this online CE program, Initial Evaluation and Ongoing Assessment of the Patient with Chronic Heart Failure: Focus on the Outpatient Setting. Heart Failure continues to rise in incidence and prevalence in the United States; about 5 million Americans have heart failure, with over 550,000 newly diagnosed annually. After completing this course, participants will be able to discuss etiology and risk factors, understand key components of the physical exam, and describe the role of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tools. Furthermore, participants will be able to review various laboratory tests and understand the new classification system used for heart failure patients. This program is designed to enhance healthcare providers' skills involved in the assessment of heart failure patients.

AUDIENCE:
Healthcare providers specializing in cardiovascular disease prevention and management.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
  1. Discuss etiology and risk factors for heart failure.
  2. List the key components of the physical exam in the assessment of the patient with heart failure.
  3. Describe the role of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tools used in the baseline assessment of the patient with heart failure.
  4. Review the importance of various laboratory tests in the initial assessment and ongoing assessment of the patient with heart failure.
  5. Outline the new classification system (stages A-D) used in the evaluation and ongoing assessment of the patient with heart failure.
