EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss evidence linking obesity, insulin resistance (IR), insulin resistance syndrome, (IRS), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and accelerated atherosclerotic-cardiovascular disease processes in children and youth
- Describe currently recommended strategies for identifying and assessing children and adolescents at risk for IR and related comorbidities
- Describe current recommendations for individual and family-focused prevention of overweight and obesity children and adolescents
- Discuss nursing implications relevant to population-based approaches to prevention of overweight in childhood and adolescence
