COURSE OVERVIEW: This course, originally presented at the PCNA 13th Annual Symposium in Minneapolis, MN will provide a scientific overview of angina and its treatment. Topics discussed will include national guidelines, pharmacotherapy, revascularization, noteworthy research, stress tests, nutrition, exercise, and other secondary prevention strategies. PRESENTER:
Presenter Bio: Dr. Steve Kopecky is a cardiologist who trained at the Mayo Clinic. Originally he started out in the cardiac catheterization laboratory doing interventional procedures and in the coronary care unit treating myocardial infarctions. After treating heart attacks for 18 years, he decided it was time to try and prevent the disease. Currently he works in the Cardiovascular Health Clinic, which is the Prevention Clinic in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. He has written numerous articles for peer reviewed journals and has received multiple Teacher of the Year awards from the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and the Department of Internal Medicine. Currently his research interests are in the role of inflammation in cardiovascular disease and the mechanisms in which lifestyle, including Mediterranean diet, exercise, and proper nutrition, play in the progression of cardiovascular disease. |
