Join us for a half-day program to examine biomarkers in the assessment of CVD risk, behavior change theories as related to exercise and the challenges of medication adherence and the importance of home blood pressure monitoring in managing hypertension. In addition, Abbott will sponsor a product theater entitled: "Lipid Management: A Sharper Focus on HDL-C."

  1. Distinguish between a risk factor and a risk marker (biomarker).
  2. List the 6 Phases in the evaluation of a biomarker.
  3. Identify the current recommendations for the use of C-reactive protein in the assessment of CVD risk.
Behavior Change Theories and Strategies to Promote Medication Adherence and Exercise
  1. Describe various behavior change theories and their application to exercise behavior change and medication adherence in the older cardiovascular patient.
  2. Identify the challenges of patient medication adherence.
  3. Integrate the use of PCNA's clinical forms/tools into practice in order to better serve the older cardiovascular patient in effectively changing exercise behavior and medication adherence strategies.
  4. Using a complex case study presentation, implement assessment and management strategies for older cardiovascular patients with exercise behavior change needs and medication noncompliance.
Home Blood Pressure Monitoring in the Management of Hypertension
  1. Describe how home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) can be used to improve hypertension diagnosis and treatment.
  2. Implement appropriate HBPM techniques based on national guidelines.
  3. Identify methods for improving hypertension control in clinical practice settings.

Nurses, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals interested in the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease.
