This new interactive educational program is designed to support nurses and nurse practitioners in their vital role as patient counselors on a heart healthy lifestyle. This online educational course is available FREE of charge and provides 3.6 contact hours of continuing education credit. This heart health nutrition course will teach you how to network with other nurses, work with patients on nutrition, tips on third party reimbursement, provide a wealth of other resources, as well as cover the following topics:

  • Atherosclerosis and the artherosclerotic process
  • Risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD)
  • Relationship of nutritional components to heart disease and risk factors
  • Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) recommended by National Cholesterol Education Program’s Adult Treatment Panel III
  • Nutritional approaches to metabolic syndrome
  • Cardiovascular benefits of fish and other omega-3 sources, soy protein and nuts
  • Issues related to vitamin supplements
